About Us

‘Summiteers’ Summit to Save the Himalayas’ is an unique event that will bring in summiteers of eight thousanders from Nepal and around the globe to Copenhagen to celebrate the International Mountain Day on December 11, 2009 to draw the global attention to perils of climate change in the Himalayas. The key feature of this event will be a march by the summiteers in summit gear on the streets of Copenhagen. This core program will be flanked by the cultural shows by a Sherpa group from the Everest region and a Danish band, time-series photo exhibition, and documentaries. Mountaineering luminaries, and high ranking officials from Nepal and Europe will join the march. The summiteers will then issue a declaration calling world community to join hands to save the Himalayas from the challenges of climate change.


This is an awareness raising campaign to urge leaders of national governments, international agencies, and the public at large to take urgent action to save the Himalayas from the impact of global warming. Many partner organizations such as Everest Summiteers Association, Nepal Mountaineering Association, National Trust for Nature Conservation, Nepal Tourism Board, WWF Nepal, International Center for Integrated Mountain Development, and the World Bank are joining the Government of Nepal to organize this event.
